Multigenre proposal

For my research paper I'm going to research domestic violence. I chose this because it's a subject that not every one is knowledgeable on, they may think that they do know, but they don't realize how common it is or how easily it's overlooked. I also have people in my life that have lived through this so that's who I intend to interview (if they approve of that.) If not, I have other topics in mind but I'm hoping this is the one!

Multigenre Paper Response

I looked through most of the multigenre paper examples provided and honestly, I started out very confused. I first read through "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: A trip down the yellow brick road" and I was completely lost (Mostly because I don't really like the Wizard of Oz, so I wasn't interested) but then I found "From the Voice Within" which is kind of a walk through of the book Speak, one of my favorite books, about a girl who is raped and loses all her friends. Reading through this one helped me understand the sense of the paper more because as she was talking through the book, I could really understand what she was talking about. I think I'm gonna like this project because I realized I can really show my opinion on a book I love in many different ways and make other people see it the way I do.

Start Something That Matters

One of the ideas that caught my eye was D0_S0. This was a group of teens with the idea to make an app and team up with different organizations and participate in their events while using the app to not only get the word out but every time someone joined the app and confirmed they were participating in the upcoming event, a dollar was donated to the cause while also creating a somewhat new form of a social media. I really liked this one not because i feel it will be super effective but because they really tried to incorporate new times and the things people are interested in nowadays into their idea. There may be a few kinks but the idea itself is solid.

Another submission I really liked was Etkie. The girl (her name was Sydney, what a great name) already had her business in motion. Her idea was to form a business that helped women artisans around the world sell their jewelry in ways other than a crowded market place. Then she had another idea to let everyone help with this cause. She would send girls these Starter Kits, for lack of a better word, with sample jewelry and catalogs so that they too could help spread the word and feel like they were contributing with more than just purchasing. I like this idea because not only does it help the women everywhere but it is in some ways a show of women banding together. I'm not big on feminism but if all feminist did things in this way (you know, not unbelievably obnoxious) more often, it just might grow on me.

My favorite post, however, was called Food Shift. Their idea was meant to help the economy, the hungry, and the earth! The post said that almost 40% of the food produced in America is thrown away, so they had an idea to team up with grocers and to save the food that was to be tossed out and give it to the hungry thus cutting down on hunger and waste and providing jobs. This idea was my favorite but I couldn't tell you why. The idea was great but no more so than any others, I just feel this idea is going places and could easily be spread throughout the world. Solving hunger in America is no easy feat, but wouldn't that be crazy?

Questions:
If you didn't have to worry about money, what would you do with your time?
I would travel, definitely. I want to be anywhere by an ocean. I would spend my time learning about the amazing creatures in the sea by actually being with them.
What kind of work would you want to do?
Something with animals, for sure. If I wanted to do something to help them, there's plenty of species who are endangered and in need of help or just attention brought to them so others would want to help as well. Species like the Maui Dolphins or the Black Rhinos.
What cause would you serve?
I think that somewhat ties in with my last answer. Animals have a bigger impact on this world than some people will ever realize.

Gardens of Winter

This presentation was about her art gallery. All of her art was basic at home objects such as a chain link fence or a quilt made completely of paper. She did a good job of keeping on task and the project flowing nicely, although at some points she loses her train of thought and has a few seconds of "uhm.." and paper shuffling. I think to improve, she might work on that and a more grabbing introduction; she kind of just jumped into her information. She did a good job choosing pictures, they were very interesting, giving many different angles of her work.
Overall, it was a good presentation and put together well. I like the Pecha Kucha presentation because its very straightforward on what the presentation is supposed to be like. I've easily filled in my 10 slides; actually, I have more information than I probably need or will be able to talk about.

Amazing Aquariums in China

In the latest email I received from my pen pal, Erica, she responded to my love for whales by telling me about an aquarium in Qingdao called Qingdao Polar Ocean World. She said "I used to see whales but it was in a long distant and it was a crowded sight spot in Qingdao. I love animals but they are not easy to see." Upon reading this, I became interested in the various aquariums throughout China; the most amazing one I found was Dalian Shengya Ocean Park.

This aquarium has the longest underground sea channel in Asia. Here's a picture of it:

There aren't a lot of aquariums like this in China but the ones there are, are all amazing. Here's some more pictures from them:

Reading Response 3; Identical

Raeanne and Kaeleigh continue to tell us more and more of their lives, thereby revealing how truly horrible they are. As I stated earlier, Kaeleigh has been sexually molested by the girls' father and Raeanne is doing anything and everything to gain that sort of attention, from him, from anyone, really. The latest development is that of their eating disorders. Both the girls are bulimic.
"Most people/hate to vomit./Can't stand/the protest/of an upset/stomach,/the heave/of bile and/undigested food,/the carve of/acid in the/esophagus./Okay, I don't/like that/part much/myself. But/I do like/the cool of/porcelain on/my face,/the solid/of tile beneath/my butt./Most of all, I like my belly/emptied, even/temporarily,/of food./Of fat./Of pain."
-Raeanne

"Its screaming to be fed. Begging to be satisfied./Its probably weird/to think about an addiction like it's a sentient being, but that's how it feels./Like it's something living inside you. Something you can't get rid of because killing it means killing you./I can't really understand addictions to drugs or alcohol. Things that control you./But an eating disorder is an addiction you control."

So clever

Side note: I just discovered this spiffy thing about my book. I feel like I think this is way cooler than it actually is, but I'll post about it anyway.
The words pulled out to the side mirror each other each time the narrator is switched. Because they're IDENTICAL TWINS. HA.
